How do I get in?
Scuttlebutt is invite only. Ask a friend who's in a group for its invite code (Group → ⋯ → Members & invite code). Install the app, sign in with Apple, then go to Groups → + → Join and enter the code.
Can I start my own group?
Yes. Groups → + → New group, then share the invite code. Groups hold up to 10 people. As the creator you're the group's owner, so you can remove members and reset the invite code if it gets passed around.
Using the app
How are picks scored?
A pick's price is recorded the moment you post it. Its return is measured from that price, and compared with the S&P 500 (SPY) over the same time. Shorts count the other way. Returns are price only, without dividends.
Can friends see how much money I have?
No. Friends only see percentages: each holding's share of your portfolio and its returns. Dollar amounts and share counts are visible only to you, and you can hide your portfolio or watch list completely (Portfolio tab → Who can see this).
How current are prices?
Prices update about every 15 minutes during market hours, with a closing price each trading day.
I'm getting too many (or too few) notifications
Tap your picture on Home → Notifications for a switch for each kind. Market alerts come as one morning brief and one roundup of big moves a day; you can mute a group's chat from its ⋯ menu.
Reporting a problem with someone
If someone is harassing you or posting something that breaks our community rules, email support@scuttlebuttmoney.com with the group and what happened. We review reports within 24 hours. You can also leave any group at any time (Group → ⋯ → Leave group), and a group's owner can remove members.
Deleting your account
In the app, tap your picture on Home → Delete account, and type DELETE to confirm. Your portfolio, watch list, alerts, and sign-in are deleted right away. What you posted in groups stays there, shown as from "Former member." Details are in the Privacy Policy. If you can't get into the app, email us and we'll delete it for you.
